Drift City
So Drift City was held in The Mother City Cape Town, on the Grand Parade, on Sunday the 10th April 2016. We were fortunate enough to be granted an All Access Media Pass for the event. This being the first gymkhana/driftkhana type of event the cape has ever seen, there were very high expectations. Those expectations were certainly met. From our point of view, and I’m sure plenty of other people would agree, this event was a huge success. Beautifully planned out, went off without a hitch.
Having been on the track before the public was even allowed on the premises, seeing the drivers and there respective pit crews gear up for all the drifting action, was awesome. Quick media briefing and soon the public was allowed in. Plenty of food trucks and food vendors present, some park offs from the local car crews, live broadcasts from a radio station, and plenty of family fun to keep everyone entertained.
We got to be in the smoke action, smelling that burning rubber..watching those drivers take those turns, to try and beat their opponents time.
One of the most exciting parts, that also made the crowd go insane, was when the drift champion Jason Webb tied with the underdog Izak Van Zyl. To see them go for another round to determine which one heads to the finals. It was a really close call, but at the end of the day, the underdog took it.
But the ultimate winner, was one which nobody saw coming, Shane Green.Who came out tops to beat out all of his opponents.
So big ups to the event organizers and all that were involved, you left a big impression in Cape Town and all who supported. The Grand Parade is still recovering from the rubber an the smoke. Long live Dr1ft City.
We all look forward to your next event..
