The Roar is Back: Recapping Power Series Round 1 & What’s Coming for Round 2
There is a specific kind of magic that happens at Killarney International Raceway when the morning mist lifts and the first sound of a high-revving engine echoes off Table Mountain.
The 2026 Power Series kicked off with a bang in early February, and if Round 1 was any indication, we are in for one of the most competitive seasons in Western Province Motor Club history. With Round 2 just around the corner on Saturday, 7 March, it’s time to look back at the heroics and look forward to the next grid drop.
🏁 Round 1 Recap: Setting the Tone
Round 1 wasn’t just a race; it was a statement. From the door-to-door action in the Polo Cup to the screaming superbikes, the “Home of Motorsport” was packed.
The Headliners:
-
Thermo Fires Clubmans: A massive 31-car grid provided the “dice of the day.” The battle between the BMWs and Golfs proved that in Clubmans racing, no lead is ever safe.
-
Laude Classic Cars: The nostalgia was high, but the speeds were higher. Seeing the legendary Porsches and Escorts fighting for grip reminds us why Killarney’s history is so special.
-
The Two-Wheel Titans: The Superbikes delivered their signature nail-biting finishes. The duel at the front of the Superbike pack came down to tenths of a second, setting up a massive rivalry for the rest of the year.
Highlight of the Day: The emergence of the “Class X” and rookie drivers who proved they aren’t just there to make up the numbers—they’re here to challenge the veterans.

Looking Ahead: Round 2 (Saturday, 7 March)
The championship momentum is building. While Round 1 was about shaking off the off-season rust, Round 2 is where the strategy deepens and the title chases truly begin.
What to Expect:
-
Tighter Grids: Drivers have now had a month to analyze data and tweak setups. Expect lap times to drop across all categories.
-
V8 Masters & Supercars: These monsters are always a crowd favorite. Listen for that distinctive V8 rumble as they power through Malmesbury Sweep.
-
The Fan Experience: Beyond the track, the paddock will be buzzing. It’s the best place to get up close to the cars, meet the drivers, and grab a “Killarney Worsrol” between heats.
