Saturday 16th July saw the SupaDrift Round 3 Regionals take place at Killarney Raceway in Cape Town. Along with some MSA Drags, and some Street2Strip action as well.
Something else that been added this, was some spinning action by the Ocean View Spinners as well. So it was a fun filled, jam packed day to be had. The day started off a bit slow and quiet actually, but I think that the cold, windy weather might have had something to do with that. We caught a bit of the MSA drags that had already started, to catch some of the bikes and the cars take on the quarter mile, to see who is faster on the track.
It was also a great time to test out the new timing system that had been put in place, that we all had been waiting quite some time for.
From there we went on to catch some of the spinning action that was taking place in the new pits area. Plenty of smoke and tyre bursting seemed to be the order of the day there. With debris from the tyres flying everywhere. But overall it was quite an experience to see these guys in action.
By around 2pm side, the wind had died down and the sun started shining quite nicely, and Killarney seemed to be filling up a bit more as well. Soon the drifting had started, from practice sessions to the qualifying, then finally the actual competition starting much later in the day.
There were a few absentees from the drifting this time around, with Danger Dan, Daniel Blaser, not being able to showcase his skills, due to some oil pressure issues with his car. Then there was also Drift City champion Shane Green that had been having trouble with his car, so he wasn’t able to compete, but instead given the chance to take the Nissan GT-R 35, out for a few laps around the oval track.
With a few minor issues here and there, the overall winner of the SupaDrift Regional Round 3 was, Jacques Lemmer, 2nd place Noer Asmodien, 3rd place it was Faheem Salie. Izak Van Zyl taking the Driver Of The Day title.
